It's Only Make Believe
Johnny Burnett

DARK REALITY

She met him in reality
of modern cyber space,
stood stunned at the totality
of spirits interlaced.

He answered all the fantasies,
she'd written in her poems,
a Knight of strength on charging steed,
he made his heart her home.

He named her as his missing soul,
took her love to cherish,
together they're a greater whole,
that will never perish.

Her heart he guarded tenderly,
then bound himself to her,
she sorrowed at the couldn't be
that fate has said they were.

And now before a mirror dim
she gazes at her soul,
the printed photograph of him
the half that makes her whole.

Her mem'ries are the dreams she made,
and letters from the heart,
and worlds of love in forest glade,
she fashioned with her art.

He walked with her in fantasy,
and tried to fill her needs.
She faced the dark reality:
she never will be freed.

And she tries now to forget him,
remove him from her soul,
but is caught in love's unsung hymn,
a fate she can't control.

Each night she sleeps curled at his side,
but knows he won't be there,
and never told him that she's cried,
each tear an empty prayer. ©
