HAUNTED

She lost all she ever was,
is haunted by a shade,
who rambles now in all she does,
in all the poems she's made.

She'd always been the Lady left,
when others all were chosen,
who stood alone, of love bereft,
each time her soul more frozen.

So life was one of aching need,
that ever filled her heart,
locked with fear and never freed,
except within her art.

She met him in a world of words,
but never heard his voice,
and couldn't fight the dream that lured.
Perhaps she was his choice?

She laid her fear in deepest hole,
and gave to him her essence,
then stripped for him heart, mind and soul,
self naked in his presence.

He tried to show reality,
and help her in her need
to take her from her fantasy,
but couldn't make her see.

He wrote no more and left her there,
to live within her lie,
in loneliness, her need laid bare,
now all she was has died.

Her looking glass is gray and dim,
but not with age or grime.
It's shadowed by the ghost of him,
she wrote in all her rhymes.

He looks out from clouded eyes,
and lurks in all she sees,
and hides in truth she still denies,
and dreams her sleep still weaves.

Her poems, they're now just poetry,
an exercise in rhyme.
She's bonded for eternity
in barrenness of time.©
