NEVER BE

And the Lady dreaming waited,
through the journeys dark and long,
for the Knight who was befated
to become her lifelong song.

She walked in twilight's garden,
and dreamed of love's sweet rose,
and of lovers ever ardent,
for every need she posed.

And she lived in stories written
on a page within her mind,
but kept truth securely hidden
in what darkness she could find..

Though her knights all lived to love her
and were always what they seemed,
still her painted ardent lovers,
weren't the answers to her dreams.

But no one matched the picture,
that she carried in her heart,
and no one showed ;the stature
of those painted with her ;art.

And the Lady ever struggled
in her chosen solitude,
to divine her ;thoughts befuddled,
by her dreams in multitudes.

She hid herself in fairy tales,
and hoped that he would come,
and take her hand in stormy gales,
and bring with him the sun.

He'd know her with a surety,
surround her with protection,
would still her insecurities,
and fear of his rejection.

And in the end she met the Knight,
that touched her inner ;being,
and knew she couldn't ever fight,
the self that he was freeing.

He plucked her soul from shadow's mist
and tucked it in his heart,
and gently on the forehead kissed,
like the image in her art.

Now she holds him in her memory,
love that would make her whole,
and is saddened by the never be,
though he lives within her soul.©
